A scholar and professor, advisor and developer in real estate, and principal of design, focusing on real estate, design and design thinking, city making and urban investment, and theories of urbanization. Dr. Wang is an elected Board Director of the American Real Estate Society, a Steering Committee Member of Harvard China Fund, a Board Advisor of the Los Angeles Chinese Chamber of Commerce, a Board Governor of The School of Architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright, a member of the National Committee on US-China Relations, and an advisor and/or principal partner in real estate partnerships in the US, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore. Dr. Wang bridges the fields of real estate and design. She worked as an investment advisor for Lehman Brothers, founded an architecture studio, and built two private equity real estate firms, KaiLong Group and Yongyou Investments. She played a key role, along with Stephen Roth, as one of the two majority shareholders, bringing in Citi Group, Starwood Capital, Cargill, and Rockpoint as institutional investors and shareholders to her companies. Dr. Wang and her partnerships had master-planned 980 acres of land, designed 6.7 million sq. ft. of physical space for local communities, and invested US$1.1 billion in urban real estate assets and transactions. Her professional practice reinforces her academic research and pedagogical focus. Dr. Wang's research manuscripts won the Best Manuscripts Awards from the American Real Estate Societies in 2016 and 2018. In addition to her published books, Dr. Wang published more than 40 book chapters and articles, focusing on the intertwined relationship between real estate and design, city-making and urbanization. Dr. Wang sits on the editorial boards for the Journal of Planning Theory and Practice (UK), the Journal of Sustainable Real Estate (USA), the Encyclopedia of Ecological Culture (China), and the editorial advisory board for The German Journal of Real Estate Research (Germany).
