During my PhD, I studied HIV-1 transcription and chromatin dynamics during HIV-1 latency using in vitro models and clinical samples from people with HIV. - Developed a repurposed CRISPR/Cas9 system to be used as a "block and lock" tool for HIV therapeutics- Validated repression of HIV-1 transcription as well as HIV-1 transcription reactivation by CRISPR/Cas9 in T cells and explored the mechanism using chromatin immunoprecipitation- Investigated how opioid use influences HIV-1 latency using clinical samples from people with HIV- Designed, optimized and performed several ddPCR assays to measure the size of latent HIV reservoir and HIV transcripts in clinical samples- Performed a series of primary cell based assay to investigate how opioids impact different steps of HIV infection in vitr0- Performed and validated in vitro primary cell differentiation of T cells and monocytes using multi-color flow cytometric analysis- Mentored colleagues, undergraduate, and graduate students on their projects- Authored three peer-reviewed articles for publication in scientific journals- Regularly communicated scientific data at seminars and conferences- 4 oral presentations in microbiology seminars, 3 poster presentations and 1 oral presentation and 3 poster presentations in conferences
