When I am doing my doctoral research, I am so fascinated by the feeling of solving real biological problems with informatics, particularly my data science skills. For the first time, I really realized the charm of data – it can help us understand the world, even ourselves. My doctoral project is a detailed summary of RNA-sequencing data characterization: we covered the analyses of clinical/experimental transcriptomics data and methodological improvement with statistics, building an interactive tool with software engineering skills and further exploration of the data with fundamental machine learning/ deep learning strategies during the whole project. This well-built project helps me master the general data analysis skills and make me more prepared to apply what I have learned in practice. Knowing what I have done on the computer screen could be part of the researches which can potentially change the lives of many patients was the merriest moment I could recall. My skill set built and practiced during my academic training and professional training include statistics, R, Python (data analysis, AI, and Back-end skills), JavaScript, HTML+CSS, and NoSQL(MongoDB).
