I, Bintu Kumar, have submitted my Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dalip Kumar and co-supervisor Prof. Madhushree Sarkar at the Department of Chemistry, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus (India).My doctoral thesis entitled ″Synthesis and Photophysical Studies of Dipyrromethane Derived Selected Boron Complexes and Fused Porphyrins‶ work involves syntheses and photophysical studies of heteroaromatic appended/annulated BODIPYs and porphyrins. For the synthesis of BODIPY dyes, C-H functionalization strategies involving use of hypervalent iodine reagents were identified. The heteroaromatic-fused porphyrinoids were successfully achieved by I(III)-mediated intramolecular oxidative cyclization of readily accessible heteroaromatic-appended porphyrins. Some of BODIPY dyes and fused porphyrins were found to be useful in detection of metal ion and selective proteins.
