GIS and data has become a huge part of my work and during the last 17 years I have worked with environmental and healthcare data in GIS software and databases. All kinds of data are almost automatically improved by using them in GIS because lots of irregularities and erroneous are very clear in a map.There are many challenges due to the quality of data and the way they are used. That makes it very important to have control of how data has been worked on or processed. It is preferable if data are collected directly from the source and that it includes metadata.Concerning healthcare data another issue is privacy. Healthcare data is private data, which are controlled by the health law. The General Data Protection Regulation from the EU also needs to be obeyed. I have been working together with Danish municipalities and regions since 2001 on GIS and data processing. In the beginning it was environmental data, but as we came along, we realized that there were huge opportunities in starting working with personal- and healthcare data. The processing and the analyzing is the same whether it is one kind of data or another. But it is necessary to take the data protection in consideration.I have been working in different GIS systems (QGIS, MapInfo and ArcGIS) and databases, doing analyses, making visualizations, doing coding for SQL selections, setting up atomization’s for data maintenance, administrating databases (PostGIS and MSSQL).
