Converted a script-based ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process from a procedural design to an object-oriented architecture. The process supports company email marketing campaigns and is driven through cron-scheduled jobs. Also developed a UI using Catalyst, a perl web framework, to add visibility to job status.Created a new revenue stream by coding a new feature to augment the functionality of the existing email marketing campaign tool. Digital River's largest client required the ability to seasonally send a large volume of email that included putting multiple coupon codes in the email. The existing tool could only send one code per email address. I was able to develop a solution that allowed sending one or more codes.Developed enhancements, fixes, and new functionality for internal web tools such as SRMS, a tool for managing the software release process. Coded in Perl, HTML, CSS, and Javascript (AJAX, JQuery). Used Perl’s HTML Template extensively.Used PL/SQL and Toad for coding transactions with the backend Oracle database. Created new tables and modified existing tables as required.Responsibilities included writing test plans, reviewing peer code, and quality assurance as needed.

This was the role that opened my eyes to my true passion, technology. For almost two years, I participated on an ERP (enterprise resource planning) reconfiguration project as a subject matter expert. During this time, five of us from the business teamed with outside consultants to reconfigure our SAP implementation to accomodate broader functionality (such as adding finance). My primary responsibility was requirements gathering and decision-making with regards to materials management, my area of expertise. I found that I loved tinkering on the tech side of the project. I decided to pursue a new career in technology. I got my BS in Software Engineering and have been a web developer ever since.
