Over the years I have always worked together with partners such as Namibia Tourism Board, as well as being secretary on the TASA board. As part of my responsibilities as Key Account Manager and later Sales Manager, I have travelled extensively in the UK, including attending trade shows such as the WTM in London, ITB in Berlin and Indaba in Durban. I joined the Namibia Tourism Board as part of the NADM / NTB campaign roadshows to the US for three continuous years, promoting Namibia as well as Wilderness Safaris experiences to agents in New York, Seattle, Denver, LA, Toronto, San Diego and many other cities. My main duties included mentoring and managing the tour consultants to keep a high level of service as expected by the international requirements of our agents in acting as their DMC for Southern Africa; being closely involved in crisis management and ground support in Namibia including after-hours emergency aid in assisting guests that had accidents or were unfortunate victims of crimes such as muggings; developing and reviewing effective systems to provide efficient administrative support to the consultants; preparing training workshops and educationals to the camps to develop the knowledge of the consultants; hosting agents and often personally accompanying them on familiarization trips around the country; negotiate best possible rates and deals with partner products and agents, updating information on our systems, preparing newsletters, working together with the stakeholders such as the MCA sponsored NADM campaign to promote Namibia and Wilderness tourism, as well maintaining important business relationships with my international trade partners, tour operators and travel agents as their “Go to Person” in Windhoek. My knowledge of the industry extends beyond Wilderness Safaris camps only, since Namibia has a wonderful collection of unique safari and accommodation options catering all kinds of budgets; though I always preferred the smaller lodges and camps focusing on real conservation and sustainability, with unique, sometimes luxury, sometimes just homely, stays/experiences – though my most favourite memories of travels rarely are about the rooms I stayed in, but rather the guides and people that showed me my home in its full splendor.
