Seagull Books is a dynamic, international independent publishing house, based in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, but simultaneously publishing out of London for the world. Seagull is dedicated not only to publishing the best-known or most promising writers from across the world but also to craft books like exquisite works of art. Over the past four decades, we have published a vast range of writers, artists, filmmakers and theatre practitioners. The list is diverse, eclectic and endless.In Seagull Books, I currently commission for and co-edit the Pride List, a series of LGBTQ books that foreground the diversity of queer experience—from fiction to poetry to drama to serious research-oriented works. I also oversee international distribution and promotions on a daily basis and coordinate production of our books across different Indian and international printers. Previously, I have been the editor for, among others, award-winning novelists Zakes Mda and Toby Litt as well as the esteemed scholars Benedict Anderson, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak and Antjie Krog. I have edited numerous translations from French and German, including the works of Max Frisch, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Yves Bonnefoy, Alexander Kluge, Wolfgang Hilbig, Florence Noiville and Nobel Prize–winning authors Elfriede Jelinek and J. M. G. Le Clézio.

The Seagull Foundation for the Arts is one of the most dynamic and diverse arts bodies that exist in India today. Its philosophy is that "the arts are everybody's business." It has a range of interests and activities, starting from showcasing well-known and yet-to-be-known visual artists at the gallery to initiating social development interventions in school curricula and encouraging social entrepreneurship: we do it all. I have been working at Seagull in various capacities, because Seagull allows and, in fact, encourages, one's forays into different aspects of arts practice and activism. I have looked into the 'Choice' programme, intended to bring young people into social development. Along with that, i have helped out in the arts programming at the Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre, which includes everything from planning shows to designing publicity materials.

Kalam Margins Write is a social development organization based in Calcutta. Its aim is to develop independent critical voices in the marginalized communities of Calcutta by encouraging creative writing among the youth in such communities. I worked as program coordinator for three years here, planning and conducting writing workshops with marginalized youth, and looking into the administration of the organization as well.
