About Mirko Palmer

I studied computer science with a focus on network architecture.I did my PhD as a systems researcher in the realm of video streaming, where we developped a complete end-to-end streaming system that we call VOXEL. With VOXEL we took a cross-layer approach to utilize insights from both the transport and the application layer to optimize end-users' quality of experience.I know my way around video codecs and quality metrics, designing software, and transport protocols.I enjoy running my own server infrastructure (with the exception of email - maintaining mail servers is no fun).In high school I wrote my own little UDP/IP stack in assembly on an 8-bit microcontroller, so I am not afraid of nitty-gritty low-level tasks.I am fluent in C++, Python and C and although I grew up running everything bare-metal, I am fine with containers.In my free time I dabble in the world of electronics and I am proud of my dotfiles repository.
