Went back to an individual contributor to help lead a team to tackle a large re-architecture and build out a new internal platform for managing our product end to end.In order for our product to grow and change based on new customer requirements we set out to build a system our product engineers would use to plug in new components. The goal was to decrease time-to-market for new products while also increasing audibility, increasing developer productivity, support additional compliance requirements like GDPR, all while making our system easier to understand as a whole.The platform was built in Golang on top of an open source workflow framework from Uber called Cadence. We have several products and 10s of engineers working and building on top of this platform.

When our engineering team grew to a size which required more team structure and management I moved from an individual contributor to a manager. Overtime this included several projects and teams.API (4 engineers) — responsible for building, and more importantly changing, our public APIs used by our largest customers with an eye towards customer happiness.Candidate Experience (4 engineers) — responsible for a large scale re-architecting of how Candidates (the people our customers are hiring) use and interact with our system. This ranges from UIs that allow them to apply for jobs and background checks online via a customer branded white label apply flow, portals to allow candidate to view, dispute, and correct data on their background checks. Partners (4 engineers) — continue leading the team responsible for managing and working closely with our partners.Compliance (8 engineers) — kicked started team with the goal or re-architecting how our compliance pipeline worked: from testing and validating results offline during development (we call this backtesting) to how it behaved and observability in production.
