About B. James Foster

I am an Economics and Political Science graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. After returning from Peace Corps service in Sierra Leone in December 2018, I relocated to Apalachicola, Florida to serve as Training Coordinator for the Conservation Corps of the Forgotten Coast. This conservation-focused nonprofit attempts to serve the environment and the youth of our community by engaging them in service. In my role with the organization, I have been managing the AmeriCorps service and compliance of 30 full-time Opportunity Youth Service Initiative participants, while also designing and implementing experiential learning curriculum for 15 alternative high school students. In Peace Corps, I served as a secondary education math teacher. I taught mathematics full-time to over 250 middle school students, while developing projects for the community, such as a school library, adult basic education program, and an orphans' welfare foundation. At university, I was employed as Operations Manager at TRAX Entertainment Venue where I worked 10-15 hours a week overseeing a staff of 20. In addition, I logged 3 hours a week as a Peer Mentor Teaching Assistant and 4 hours a week as an Economics Tutor. During my college years, I:- completed a research internship with Project Vote Smart- a Montana-based non-partisan voter research database.- authored 3-4 articles a week for Harrisburg-based political news outlet PoliticsPA. - compiled and presented an economic analysis of grant systems as an intern for Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, an environmental conservation nonprofit.- balanced and reconciled accounts for Gaines Betbeze of Coventry Way LLC, a real estate investment company.Throughout my studies and research-based jobs, I have completed training in Unmanned Systems, Stata, SPSS, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.When not working or studying, I was:- Founder of the Tired of Tires initiative, that collected over 700 dumped tires from Mobile-area wetlands.- A member of the SU Mock Trial Team, where I helped lead our team to our best year ever at the Pittsburgh AMTA invitational. -An active member of Habitat for Humanity- where I dedicate at least one weekend a month to build housing for the less fortunate.-Secretary of People Serving People, a student-run poverty relief organization.
