  • Storagesoft, Inc./Microhouse International
    Technical Services Manager
    Storagesoft, Inc./Microhouse International Jun 1998 - Jan 2000
Training of tech support in the testing lab worked so well that the decision was made to merge the testing and tech support departments. I was given the responsibiliy of managing this new department. In this capacity, I hired and trained new technicians, designed test cases and executed testing plans, managed lab Windows and Linux servers, and managed the test network. My continued work in the testing lab meant I got to reconfigure the network almost everyday and learned a considerable amount about setting up servers, workstations and networking in a very short period of time. When the company split, my department was moved to a new office and I took on the added responsibility of designing, building out and then managing the new network, lab, and servers. During this time I expanded my knowledge of testing methodologies and performed system analysis, wrote use cases and software requirements, ran performance tests and benchmarks and researched possible solutions for existing problems and new features. I took my increased knowledge and trained personnel on software products, testing methodology and networking. ► Increased productivity and staff effectiveness by combining the tech support and testing departments and rotating all staff through the test lab and helpdesk.
  • Microhouse International
    Software Testing And Qa Lead
    Microhouse International Jan 1998 - Jun 1998
I was given a permanent job with MicroHouse after an initial 6 month contract doing testing and QA for the company's software. My attention to detail and methodical approach made me well suited to QA. I was given more responsibility and in short order was managing all testing of ImageCast and DrivePro products. I maintained all the lab hardware and network, and researched new technologies to implement in products. I also interviewed applicants for tech support and testing positions. While acting as QA Lead, I:► Increased effectiveness of tech support personnel and increased testing productivity by training tech support as they were running through test cases.► Organized software testing by implementing a bug tracking system, writing testing plans and test cases.
  • Professional Technical Recruiters (Contracted To Microhouse)
    Test Lab Associate
Professional Technical Recruiters (Contracted To Microhouse) Sep 1997 - Jan 1998
My foray into Testing and QA started with this contract job with MicroHouse, Intl. I Tested DrivePro and ImageCast software. Created test scenarios and set up lab hardware (PCs and networking) for testing DrivePro and ImageCast. Trained tech support personnel on software and helped with difficult support issues. At the end of the contract, MicroHouse hired me on full time.
  • Computer Consulting Associates
    Computer Technician/Salesman
Computer Consulting Associates Jun 1995 - May 1996
This was my first job after the AirForce and was where my foundation for System Administration started. I remember the owner of the company thinking it would take me up to 6 months to learn to build PCs, but I was proficient at quoting all the parts for a new build and putting it all together in less than a month. My Air Force training helped me understand the way everything worked together at a deeper level so I could pick it up quickly. While at this job, I performed hardware and software troubleshooting, computer and peripheral repair, built custom computers for clients, and sold computers, components, andperipherals.
  • United States Air Force
Airborne Warning And Control Radar Journeyman
United States Air Force Jun 1991 - Jun 1995
    Randolph Afb, Tx, Us
After two years of college-level chemistry at Colorado School of Mines, my electronics technician training started out a little slow with "An atom is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons." By the end of that 9 months, though, I had been exposed to every basic electronic device, both analog and digital, that there is. It's from this training that my tech career started, and I've always tried to understand things at their most basic level because of it. I was taught proper troubleshooting methods that have served me ever since. I loved my job as a technician on the AWACS RADAR. I got to work with VERY high power microwave, high voltage, analog and digital electronics, 10Ghz processors that spanned 10 circuit boards, and other cool stuff. The RADAR system status codes were presented as a string of octal digits that we had to decode to see what bits were set. This set up my ability to convert binary to octal, decimal and hexadecimal and back again.I learned quite a bit about leadership while in the Air Force. I ended up in a leadership role many times through my enlistment. I learned early on that people will follow much easier when you lead by example and they know that you are willing to do the very things you ask of them.
