Sr. Solutions Architect, Health Technology
CurrentI specialize in designing systems, software, and technical architecture for large and complex healthcare programs, aligning them with strategic objectives. As a key member of the architecture team, I offer expertise to fellow IT professionals on various aspects of software design, system architecture, and solution-oriented technologies. My role involves effective communication with clients, where I analyze business requirements and processes to provide insightful recommendations that influence and shape future plans. I oversee project outcomes, ensuring that both hardware and software designs meet overall requirements in each project phase.I thrive in applying cutting-edge principles, theories, and concepts, contributing to the development of new ideas in the field. I am known for tackling unusually complex problems with highly innovative solutions. Operating with substantial autonomy for decision-making, I also play a crucial role in mentoring and supervising employees, fostering growth in both firm and technical competencies.
Chief Architect, Consultant
In my role as Chief Architect, I took charge of defining and implementing the technology strategy necessary to align with the business objectives of the enterprises I served. This involved collaborating closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts to pinpoint the affected value streams, processes, and enabling capabilities. Additionally, I conducted thorough gap analyses, formulated intermediate and target architectures, proposed initiatives, crafted roadmaps, and developed comprehensive project plans.Beyond strategy, I spearheaded product development initiatives, overseeing the Proof of Concept (PoC) development for applications and data/analytics solutions. On the application front, my responsibilities extended to creating wireframe UI mockups, designing data models, managing database deployment and migrations, and developing server-side APIs. Notably, most prototypes were crafted to be cloud-native and specifically tailored for Azure. In the realm of data and analytics, my design expertise covered diverse sources such as SQL/NoSQL databases and data lakes. I employed query engines like Dremio and Athena, and implemented serverless ETL solutions such as AWS Glue and Azure Data Factory to ensure a robust and efficient data ecosystem.Major accomplishments included:- Designed and operationalized all IT infrastructure for a retail brand startup as part of a pilot project for the commercial branch of the Swiss Railways (SBB). The brand was successfully acquired by the Swiss market leader, Valora.- Designed the entire cloud system architecture for cogvisAI, a healthcare IoT spin-off of the Technical University of Vienna and one of the most prominent Austrian AI start-ups due to an investment by the Flick Foundation (well-known Austrian private equity firm). The real-time, event-driven design included IoT provisioning, telemetry and messaging handling, historical & stream analytics, a backend API for web & mobile apps, and a cloud-native BI solution.
Solutions Architect, It & Opex
During my tenure with the European retail startup Superguud, which operated multiple outlets in Switzerland's primary train stations (akin to high-frequency retail in American shopping malls), I found myself immersed in a challenging and fast-paced environment. The company consistently set sales records and attracted acquisition offers, but the looming concern was a lack of cost control, potentially impacting the attractiveness of the offers received. My mission was clear: enhance or at least maintain employee and retail outlet performance while implementing stringent cost-control measures. This challenge provided a perfect opportunity for me to leverage my expertise in Business Process Management and IT engineering. To address our objectives, I immerse myself in an extensive learning journey, absorbing vast amounts of information related to web/mobile development, ERP & POS system integrations, custom real-time reporting, and process automation. The diligent research and application of these insights proved fruitful. Over a span of two and a half years, sales continued to soar, processes became more automated, and we achieved stability and control in both quality and efficiency. The successful acquisition of the company marked a significant milestone, and I transitioned to a broader role with increased responsibilities within the parent company, continuing to contribute to its growth and success.
Deputy Program Manager
In this role, I was the right hand of the Senior Program Manager which put me in a perfect position to absorb best practices regarding business strategy development and execution, change management, & the true importance of good communications and proper KPI development. I applied a lot of these same skills as an Ops Manager, but as an OM, I had a good feel for operations at the ground level. In my new role, I was much more disconnected from the "boots on the ground” and learned to mostly rely on OKRs & KPIs to drive my decisions. Most of my daily work involved identifying the best opportunities for improvements among the various sites we managed (i.e., those improvements that would move us closer to our goals), working with onsite leadership to develop implementation plans, and working with the ops managers and SMEs to execute the plans on time/budget and derive the expected benefits.I had a lot of fun in this role & I only left because I was presented with an amazing opportunity to travel & work in Europe.
Operations Manager
As Ops Manager, I was responsible for the test engineering labs at 5 different locations, including Clearwater, Norcross, Anniston, Olathe, & Wichita. This was a challenging role that required me to adopt or develop management strategies that would scale. However, my hard work paid off. My achievements did not go unnoticed and, with less than 2 years in the role, I was selected for promotion out of my peer group.Thinking back, I attribute my success in this role to:1. Working for great leaders that were demanding and supportive in equal measure.2. Leveraging my IT skills and relationships to obtain more data for operational analytics, learning to interpret the analytical data better than my peers could, and learning how to apply a laser-like focus on actions that moved my teams closer to their goals.3. Identifying the explicit & implicit management systems at play in my environment, learning to model them, and learning to improve those models in a manner that allowed my management system to scale. Obtaining my Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt certification helped significantly.4. Learning everything I could about team development, collaboration, and empowerment. This led to a seismic shift in my management style from that of a “director” to more of a “facilitator” of the teams I led. The teams liked it better. I liked it better. It was a win-win scenario.
