He is also a former chairman of Capita, Glenore Investments and Saor Advertising in Ireland, and ICSA Publishing, and Ardmore in the UK. He was a member of the board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority between 2001 and 2005 and of the board of the Business School in Trinity College, Dublin University from 2004 until 2011.He has also served on boards of trade, governmental and charities organisations including the Foundation for Fiscal Studies, Food Drink & Tobacco Federation, Irish Government’s Industrial Costs Monitoring Group, Irish Parliament's Public Expenditure Advisory Committee, European Government Business Relations Council, UCD Centre for Commercial Law Studies, UK Council for National Academic Awards, Commision des Industries Agricoles et Alimentaires, IBEC, and Co- Operation North.In summary he has been on the boards of directors of over 150 companies registered in seven jurisdictions.He is a published company law author and has lectured around the world on corporate governance matters. In his spare time he writes poetry.He is a Past President of the Institute of Directors in Ireland, of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and of the EU Association of the Chocolate & Confectionery Industries.
