HARALAMBOS (Babis) KARATHANASSIS is a mining engineer in the Directorate of Environmental Licensing in Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy. Due to his current job position, he counts almost 20 years of experience in environmental assessment and management of mining sites and in implementation of environmental legislation as well.Born in 1970, he graduated as a Mineral Resources Engineer from the Mineral Resources Engineering Department of the Technical University of Crete-Greece. He also holds a M.Sc on applied Geophysics, in the field of geophysical prospecting of the same University. Currently he is a Phd candidate at the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering of School of Engineering of University of West Attika – Greece with his research field in information systems analysis for mining waste managementHis main interests are environmental assessment of extractive sites, mining waste management, IS and GIS modelling, remote sensing applications, digital image processing, applied geophysics, ore explorations, mining and reservoir engineering.
