About Brian Bumbarger, Phd, Med
Brian Bumbarger is an internationally-recognized thought partner and consultant, researcher, speaker and trainer, and has given hundreds of invited keynote and plenary presentations at national and international events across the U.S. and throughout the world. Brian works at the intersection of research, public policy, and practice to improve public systems and outcomes for communities, families and children. He is Founding Partner and CEO of Science, Systems & Communities Consulting. Brian currently serves as Adjunct Research Associate at both Colorado State University and Penn State University Prevention Research Centers, as well as the REACH Institute at Arizona State University. He is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Criminology Institute at Griffith University (Queensland, Australia). He was Founding Director and Principal Investigator of the Evidence-based Prevention and Intervention Support Center (www.EPISCenter.org).Brian was appointed by Governor Jared Polis to the Colorado Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Council, where he serves as Council Vice-Chair, as well as Chair of both the Diversion Committee and the Research and Evaluation Committee. He was also appointed by Governor Polis to both the Judicial Performance Commission and the Judicial Nominations Commission for Colorado's 11th Judicial District. For over two decades, Brian has conducted research on prevention and youth development; dissemination, implementation, and sustainment of evidence-based practices; community collective impact, and system change. He has been the principal investigator on multiple large-scale studies of program implementation, effectiveness and sustainability, and published articles, book chapters and state and federal policy papers on juvenile justice, community and systems capacity-building, prevention and implementation science.He serves on the Coalition for the Promotion of Behavioral Health Executive Committee and is a founding member of both the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration (SIRC) and the Global Implementation Society. From 2012-2015 Brian was elected to the Board of Directors of the international Society for Prevention Research (SPR), and has been the recipient of the Society’s 2014 Translational Science Award and 2020 Service to Society Award for his research and service related to scaling evidence-based practices.

The EPISCenter, a project of the Prevention Research Center at Penn State University, promotes the adoption, high-quality implementation, and sustainability of proven-effective prevention and intervention programs aimed at promoting positive youth development and preventing or reducing the prevalence of youth behavior problems such as violence, delinquency, substance abuse, and school failure (including truancy and dropout).
