In June 2016, received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with an art therapy and psychology focus. Before applying for a master's program, was accepted to serve with Peace Corps Madagascar 2017.Although unable to leave with my group due to unforeseen health concerns, I accepted a youth counselor position for Vista Maria right outside of Detroit MI. In 2020, I stepped into my new role as a Youth & Family Specialist. Founded in 1883, 5 sisters had a vision. A vision to give young girls and women who have been abused and neglected the opportunity to have emotional, educational, and psychological guidance among the grounds of Vista Maria. In August of 2022, I accepted a new position as a Youth Advocate Specialist with Avalon Healing Center located in Detroit MI. My mission remains the same: providing services for youth in need. As a 24 hr sexual assault center, services are available for anyone who identifies as a survivor of rape, incest, or sexual assault, no matter when or where it occurred. In May of 2024, I accepted an internship position with the Ruth Ellis Center based in Detroit MI to help support LGBTQ+ young people. In August of 2024, I accepted a contracting position with the company to continue on as a group art therapy co-facilitator that works towards creating a safe and trauma informed space for healing through the art therapy making process. In August of 2024 I was awarded my Masters of Arts degree with a dual focus in clinical mental health counseling and art therapy through Wayne State University. In this particular program, I will be able to work towards obtaining a full license as an LPC as well as work towards receiving my ATR-BC to become a board certified art therapist in the US. In the near future, legislation will hopefully be passed in the state of MI for art therapists to obtain a license in art therapy!Humbled by being able to continue to have the opportunity to support, encourage, educate, and create in a community where development of new social interactions and leadership skills can help enrich the lives of others. With following the path to becoming a leader and an educator, creating and exploring what it means to be a positive and accurate influencer through the arts is at the heart of it all.

Preparations For Tefl TeacherPeace Corps Nov 2016 - Jun 2017For Host Country MadagascarHappy to say that I was accepted to serve with Peace Corps Madagascar! Leave date was June 2017 and would have been a TEFL teacher. My hopes were to also integrate Michelle Obama's initiative called Let Girls Learn. I planned to work at the grassroot level to help assist with gender equality, self awareness, female empowerment, quality education, and more. This program has already helped more than 85,000 girls and young women around the world through the Peace Corp. My passion lies with helping women and children find their voice and am happy to serve to give others this possible opportunity. Due to unforseen health concerns I was unable to depart with my group a week before my leave date. I did however spend 8 months prior to my leave date working towards my application, getting accepted, going through my physical, medical, and legal clearance, taking educational courses, meeting other Peace Corps volunteers for advice, planning, as well as support. That is the experience I have had preparing to become a Peace Corps volunteer. -
