My first year in this role was spent primarily developing and running a high-throughput platform to analyze dsRNA residues in field trial samples. This involved programming, maintaining, and operating Opentrons OT-2 robots, KingFishers, and Integras. It also involved the creation of tools to generate variable automation scripts and perform automated data analysis. These scripts were primarily written in Python and VBA.The remainder of my time in this role was spent working on Mode of Action experiments to support Plant Delivery/Herbicide projects. During my time on these projects, I was involved with all parts from initial experiment concept through data analysis, drawing conclusions, and applying what was learned to the next experiment. I was still able to leverage many of my efforts from the first year such as utilizing the automated platform to analyze Plant Delivery samples, allowing for higher sample counts in experiments, and utilizing data analysis tools I'd already constructed to analyze Plant Delivery data. Towards the end of my time in this role I began shifting to supporting Product Chemistry, with the last 6 months of it being a 50:50 mixture of molecular biology and analytical chemistry.

Extracting DNA from cotton and soy samples using several automation systems, including Tecans, VIAflo, and KingFisher instruments. Performing qPCR-based assays and data analysis on extracted DNA using Viia7 and CFX instruments and software. Serve as local team's representative on global Operations team. Performed qPCR and bioanalysis on prepared libraries before manually normalizing and pooling samples. Manual clustering and preparation of pools for sequencing on Illumina platforms, specifically HiSeqs, MiSeqs, and NovaSeqs. Used a Biomek FxP for automated exome library prep and hybridization, experienced with troubleshooting this liquid handler as well as the previously mentioned sequencing instruments. Performed specialized assays such as SNP identification and KRAS mutation detection. An active lab member, I served as my department's 5S representative and participated in monthly audits, was a member of our site’s eco-committee, assisted with inventory management, managed the department’s preventative maintenance, prepared intermediate client reports, and have presented at a site-wide meeting.
