I'm a Sunderland fan who moved to Finland to follow a woman and see if I could make it in a foreign land. I think I did OK with my first two start-ups in the Analytics and Digital marketing space, selling both of them and exiting after earn-outs. Fast forward 20 years and I'm now onto my 3rd start-up, Toristy which is a travel experiences platform.Travel customers want tailored, cultural experiences reflecting the things that are unique about where they’re going. They want to buy when they are in the destination and they want it to be easy to find and buy from perhaps 130 different things being sold in any given location.Anything from fine dining on the 125th floor of the Burj Khalifa, to snorkeling in the crystal waters of Bali, or ticking the northern lights off your bucket list. These and 100s of thousands more experiences are connected in our network. That's what we can provide for your business if you don't sell travel experiences but want to.Drop me a line on steve.jackson@toristy.com if you want to learn more.

Board MemberAnarky Labs Mar 2020 - May 2021Helsinki, Southern Finland, FiWe believe we can change the way the industry uses drones by providing the pilots with an augmented reality view into the situation at hand, making operations safer, more productive and more intuitive to use. My role on the board as a founding investor was to help steer the company in its very early start up mode whilst in it's research and development phase. Now the foundations are in place my role is more suited to an advisory position allowing more experienced board professionals to take over. -

Chief Analytics OfficerQuru Aug 2009 - Mar 2013Helsinki, Southern Finland, FiIn August 2009 I co-founded Kwantic with a little help from our partner Frantic a full service digital agency from Helsinki. In April 2012 Kwantic acquired the Finnish business of Timgu and the resulting merger resulted in a brand change. We became Quru on June 15th 2012.As CAO I was on the management team and responsible for consulting key clients, developing the competence levels of my colleagues, helping develop the business, evangelising, speaking at industry events and helping to guide our clients towards using data to inform decision making. Some of the most notable wins in my career to date came in this role, for instance pointing out a €60m opportunity for a travel client, realising savings of €18m worth of poor marketing spend for a telco and finding dozens of similar opportunities in different verticals like financial services. -

Senior Analytics ConsultantSatama Interactive Oyj Apr 2006 - Jan 2009Helsinki, Southern Finland, FiAfter Satama acquired Aboavista our focus changed from serving mainly SME clients to mainly the large enterprises. The client engagements I worked on were about doing the things we did for smaller companies at scale. Suddenly I was talking about improving conversion rates across 64 markets and 10s of millions of visitors per month per customer rather than across single websites with a few hundred thousand visitors per year. The learning curve was steep and in 2008 I started writing a book about my experiences in the larger enterprises. This became what is known today as "The Cult of Analytics" published by Elsevier in May 2009.Satama is still the best big company I ever worked for to this day as I write in 2023. It had a sense of diversity and inclusion of a truly international company, had timeless values that still hold today and did great work. It's a time I look back on most fondly. -
