I focus on the intersection of cybersecurity, technology, privacy, money, and the law. I help businesses, governments, and law firms protect themselves and those they serve against cyber theft, espionage, and piracy. I provide services and strategy for breach coaching, cyber forensics, M&A cyber due diligence, breach remediation, TSCM (technical surveillance counter-measures), and crisis communications.I’ve been a law professor since 2000, and I teach cybersecurity, tax, and entrepreneurship. Prior to moving to Texas, I taught at Brigham Young University, the University of New Hampshire, LSU, Syracuse University, the University of Idaho, and the University of Washington Foster School of Business. Before I began teaching, I was a principal shareholder in a tax boutique, where I coached startups, was involved in domestic and international tax planning, and represented individuals and businesses before the Internal Revenue Service and state tax agencies. I’ve been coding since age 12, and have done projects in Ruby, C, Javascript, Perl and Pascal.I am a frequent and engaging speaker in the U.S. and abroad on cyberlaw, technology & intellectual property, business, and taxation. I've been cited in Forbes and my articles have been published in leading national law journals.I received a B.S. from Brigham Young University, a J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School, and an LL.M in Taxation from the University of Washington. I've been named a Visiting Scholar at the National University of Singapore, Division of Engineering & Technology Management.I'm married with four children, and spend equal amounts of time chaperoning youth camps, working on various web and smartphone app projects, and teaching myself the ukulele.
