I am an Educational Professional with a unique combination of environmental, social, and educational work experience. I have a passion for helping at-risk students, specifically in my local community. My professional interests focus on culturally responsive pedagogy and education for English Language Learners in all content areas, with strengths in Language Arts, Music, Art, Science, Technology, and Math. Developing a strong classroom community is the first priority each year I teach, and I do this by getting to know my students, and by them learning about and from each other. Compassion and confidence are two traits I try to foster in students, while encouraging them to find their own strengths. I adapt to the dynamics of the classroom and some years teach the entire class chess, have them code in Minecraft or with a Sphero Bolt, or ask them to analyze lyrics of their favorite songs and compare them to the similar aspects and power of poetry. I believe in education through exploration, curiosity, and wonderment that is not strictly confined to a school building.
