Momentum is a consulting structural and civil engineering company. I worked in the London office on numerous projects from temporary festival structures through to new multi-storey buildings and refurbishment projects based in the UK and Europe. Through the small company environment I worked in teams for larger projects but also took the lead on projects on the engineering and communication front, furthering my responsibilities from my previous role. I also began delegating work to and assisting new graduate/ summer internship students which I found rewarding.

Structex is consulting structural engineering company that benefits from the small team approach. Through this I was exposed to client, contractor and other design team communications early on in my career, helping progress my project management capabilities quickly. In the aftermath of the Canterbury Earthquakes, my role featured varied projects from earthquake repair and strengthening of existing industrial, commercial and residential buildings to new designs on recently demolished sites. This involved complex seismic analysis to new and developing best practise guidelines while also keeping the designs efficient to remain on budget. Throughout my three years at Structex I progressed from working with a project lead, to becoming a project lead on small and intermediate sized projects, while accepting more responsibilities on larger projects.

Christchurch, New Zealand

This was my introduction to the Engineering workplace. Here I worked on residential projects and assisted senior engineers with smaller parts of larger commercial projects. I was introduced first hand to the damage caused by the Canterbury Earthquakes as further inspections of damaged buildings were being undertaken at this time.
