I am a Cambridge DELTA-qualified native-speaking English language teacher from Canada with a magna cum laude degree in linguistics, more than 20 years classroom teaching experience, 12 years teacher supervisory experience, and 4 years of teacher training experience. I am currently working in Austin, Texas as academic director and vice-president at HOFT Institute, where I am in charge of the ESL program. Before that, I worked for a university ESL program in Halifax, Canada, where I was a teacher-trainer and involved with the university bridging program. My most recent work abroad was in Saudi Arabia, as a supervisor and instructor at University of Health Sciences. In my last semester there, I supervised half the English language curriculum for a student body of more than 500 students. My teaching specialties include the IELTS, TOEFL, and CAE proficiency exams, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Medical Purposes (EMP), and pronunciation and accent reduction. I have worked as a language instructor in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, China, and Saudi Arabia, so I have taught a very wide variety of nationalities. I speak English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese at an advanced level, as well as a good amount of German, Portuguese and Japanese. I was an IELTS speaking and writing examiner for several years. I have designed full curriculum for around one hundred different courses, and have put many of those courses online via learning management systems. I am well acquainted with the American student visa system, and accreditation processes for ESL institutions. I am familiar with webpage development, Facebook and LinkedIn marketing, and landing page creation, as well as multiple forms of educational software, including Canvas, Blackboard, Zoom, MyELT, STARS, etc. and useful educational Apps like WeChat, WhatsApp, Skype, Flipgrid, and Ted Ed. I also enjoy writing, both fiction and nonfiction, as well as poetry. My website for that is at blairbourassa.wordpress.com.
