Whakatane
As my Planning and Intelligence role with Whakatāne District Council (below) came to a close due to the completion of a successful recovery mission, I was appointed at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to assist with the planning and logistics required to repair 520 infrastructure river sites that had been impacted by ex-Cyclone Debbie and Donna. In this role I was responsible for implementing an efficient project tracking system, providing insights and analysis of project status and creating of scopes of works and invoices for each site.

Following ex-Cyclone Debbie and Donna, I contributed to the Whakatāne District Recovery Project in two functions. The first being a Planning and Intelligence role in the initial response phase of the project, which transitioned into a Navigator role that supported flood impacted residents with wrap-around services as the recovery process progressed. My efforts and achievements received a commendation from the Mayor of the Whakatāne District, Tony Bonne.Planning and Intelligence Role: This role required intelligence gathering from various entities throughout the region who were affected by the Cyclones, as well as those assisting with the recovery effort. Such entities included District and Regional Councils, Iwi, local boards, community groups, The Chamber of Commerce, businesses and individuals. I was responsible for prioritising and clearly communicating intelligence at a regional and national level to streamline actions and track recovery progress. Navigator Role: This role focused attention to flood impacted residents throughout the district, predominantly in Edgecumbe. I was responsible for connecting with people who had been displaced from their homes and workplaces - and ensuring they had access to support services and advice to navigate issues such as temporary housing, insurance, mental health and employment interruption.
Whakatane
Whakatāne Ki Mua aimed to understand what people love about the Whakatāne District, their towns and communities. My role was to help them identify a shared vision of the district’s future. At the outset of this role I had begun assessing existing data from community workshops and planning for further engagement. Unfortunately, this project was placed on hold due to the ex-cyclones which lead to the roles mentioned above.https://www.whakatane.com/community-vision
