I acted for clients in a wide variety of civil and commercial disputes at Holland Beckett. I appeared on numerous occasions in the High Court, District Court, the Employment Court, Employment Relations Authority, Sports Tribunal and in an arbitral tribunal, along with assisting with preparation for hearings in the Court of Appeal. My clients ranged from a major multinational shipping company to legally-aided individuals and my expertise was focused on commercial disputes, insolvency, employment and minor criminal law. I also managed files in more specialist areas of law, such as healthcare and maritime law.

I was a successful candidate for a position as a solicitor after my involvement in Holland Beckett’s summer law clerk programme. In my first rotation, I worked in Litigation. My work included legal research, drafting court pleadings and letters to clients and opposing counsel, observing mediations and court hearings, and presenting an employment seminar to the Bay of Plenty District Health Board. In my second rotation, I worked in Property under the supervision of Mr Bill Holland MNZM. I continued to develop my legal research and writing skills, and gained experience at drafting documents such as wills, enduring powers of attorneys, sale and purchase agreements, and deeds.
