The most important thing any manager has to know to successfully interact with their employees and their customers, is that it is contrary to human nature to do anything irrational. That is, while we may perceive the actions of a customer or an employee to be irrational--from their perspective--the decision made was the best decision for them. Therefore, to engage your employees, you must understand what drives them. To respond to the complaint of a customer, you must understand how they view the situation. In some cases, the motivations are nefarious, but in most, the motivations are genuine. It is the manager's job to interpret those motivations and determine the best way to proceed. In other words, in working with other human beings, managers must be able to step into others' shoes and take charge with that understanding.I believe my life experiences have afforded me an understanding of leadership on par with or better than the average manager. Every step of my life has made me a better person and a better leader. From being the eldest of four siblings in a household where being the eldest meant being a permanent babysitter. From handling Guest Services at one of the top vacation destinations in the world--interacting with people that have spent tens of thousands of dollars on a vacation that had thus far disappointed. From managing a small town restaurant with a worldwide following. All to lead to my next opportunity for learning in your hospitality environment.I am seeking the next step in my career. A role that would increase the number of my direct and indirect commands and keep me in the hospitality industry I love.
