The Penn State Dance Marathon, affectionately known as THON, is a yearlong fundraising and awareness campaign to raise money for our soul beneficiary, Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, consisting of over 15,000 volunteers. The financial support THON provides to Four Diamonds allows them to assist families at the Hershey Children's Hospital whose lives have been affected by childhood cancer. THON’s fundraising efforts culminate in a 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon every February that symbolizes our unified fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THON has raised over $137 million for Four Diamonds. As the Family Relations Director, I was one of 17 Executive Directors who led this student-run philanthropy. My role was to directly work with over 350 families who are beneficiaries of the Four Diamonds. I led the Family Relations Committee which consisted of 23 Family Relations Captains each in charge of a different aspect of the committee. Throughout the year we planned and executed over 10 different events for families to attend both in State College and in the Hershey area. All of these events lead up to the culmination of THON Weekend where the Family Relations Committee is in charge of hosting all families and ensuring they have an enjoyable THON experience.

The Adopt-A-Family Program pairs Four Diamonds families with Penn State Organizations, allowing them to form life-long relationships.As an Adopt-A-Family Captain I was a liaison to 30 organizations helping them to facilitate interactions with Four Diamonds families.
