The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania researches the role think tanks possess in influencing governments and civil societies across the globe. As part of the Security and International Affairs think tank (SIATT) team at TTCSP, I had the opportunity to engage with a range of global think tanks global initiatives developing security. During my internship, was able to improve my research, data collection, writing, and speaking skills as well as develop proficiency with Google Sheets. Also, I learned how to coordinate and collaborate completely virtually with my teams 7 members as well as the other 100+ members of the TTCSP program.

I was able to collaborate one-on-one with a practicing physician to develop their observations about post-surgery opioid use into an original research idea and paper. Namely, I analyzed post-surgery opioid use clinical data using the Mathematica software and reviewed the contemporaneous literature about opioid use. In terms of the research paper, I contributed significantly to the writing, editing, and publishing process.

Using Mathematica, I simulated competition between genetically modified CMML cancer cells to understand interaction and dominance between cancer subpopulations. My research explored the possibility of utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 genetic editing in the eradication of CMML tumors. My presented my findings at Summer Symposium Session in front of Moffitt faculty, senior researchers, and medical professionals.
