I love technology and building, but I have realized I gain the most joy day to day by growing people. I want to work with other managers and leads who shares that passion. Every project I assign to a developer is not just feature that needs to be delivered. They are opportunities for growth.I want myself and my team to work with a smile on our faces. If my team isn't smiling, then I am doing something wrong as their manager. I allow my team to tell me how they want to develop. I allow my engineers to tell me when they can feasibly complete their project. If they work more than a standard day then we discuss in their next 1 on 1 how we change as an engineer, as a manager, and as a team to be better on the next project.I strive to think of the customer as my best friend. I only want to deliver solutions that I would want to give to my best friend. When designing, implementing, testing, and releasing we have to be vigilant in doing the right thing for the customer even when doing so is hard.I ensure my team develops with an attention to keeping the operational burden low. I push my team to incorporate business metrics and plan for future operational issues in design reviews to ensure we are building sustainable software.Saying we can't build something or solve some problem is the wrong way to look at the task in front of you. We build software for a living. Anything is possible given enough time and resources.
