I am currently a 2nd year materials science and engineering undergraduate at Georgia Tech. During the school year I volunteer at the Material Innovation and Learning Laboratory (MILL) as a lab staffer to assist undergraduate and graduate researchers in using materials characterization equipment. Specifically, I am the X-Ray technical officer, which means I am qualified to train lab-space users on X-ray equipment such as the XRD or XRF. However, this is not my only expertise at the MILL. During the summer of 2023, I was employed as a MILL Fellow, which was a paid position to staff at the lab space during the summer. This entailed training undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers on lab equipment, editing/authoring SOPs for materials characterization such as the SEM and XRD, and assisting researchers with obtaining data for numerous different projects. Through this I have trained around 40 researchers on lab equipment such as the SEM, optical microscope, FTIR, and XRD/F.
