My name is Blake Newton, and I am currently a fifth-year engineering student at the University of Dayton. I will be graduating in December of 2023 with a Mechanical Engineering degree with an Aerospace Concentration. Throughout my time in Dayton, I have worked for 4 semesters at GE Aerospace in Cincinnati Ohio. While there I worked in the repair side of aviation, as the shop I worked in is a repair site for GE jet engines. I worked on multiple projects simultaneously, including writing Standard operating procedures for laser cutting, welding, water jet, and inspections. While at GE I was also heavily involved in repair improvements, working with the lead welding engineer we were able to amend and change several repairs of jet engine combustors to take less time and lead to less warping and sinking of parent material. My second rotation at GE I worked in Lean manufacturing. Participating in several Kaisen events and a Shingijutsu event, as well as undertaking projects pertaining to safety and quality on the shop floor.
