Profile bio

About Blake Steiner

Howdy there folks! I strive to bring new insights in remote sensing, GIS, and un-crewed autonomous vehicles (UAVs) to empower communities with actionable data and tools. As a Master's student, I received the National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship. In that research, I combined weather, carbon flux, soil moisture, satellite, and camera data in R and GIS to look into how soil moisture at different depths affects leaf-out in semi-arid savannas. During that time, I worked under NASA DEVELOP to expand on UHEAT, a tool for communities to use to determine which areas are most vulnerable to urban heat. Now, I have the privilege of applying this knowledge to help the community that raised me. So far this has involved work in creating a digital twin, sea level rise, agriculture, 3D modeling, all the while volunteering my time to continue phenological research in dryland ecosystems. I love learning new things and look forward to learning from you. Cheers!
