Manage activities associated with operation of the reactor core. Assignments include, but are not limited to, on-shift navigation of planned reactivity maneuvers, short-term core management, heat cycle analysis, custodial responsibilities for special nuclear materials, analysis and planning of fuel movements, dry fuel storage coordination, spent fuel rack management, and responsibility for computer-based reactor analysis and reactivity control systems. Assignments may also include technical evaluations, criteria and testing plans for plant modifications, performance of operability determinations, and oversight of the station Reactivity Management program. Support fleet initiatives and all reactor sites assigned by management.

Operates manually controlled equipment and remotely controlled equipment from locations other than the central control room. Determines operating status of equipment from from previous shift personnel and log entries. Checks cause of operating problems and reports to supervisor. Maintains a log recording unusual events and changes in operating conditions. Provides direction and provides operations training of all personnel. Performs fire protection duties such as response to fire, rescue, hazardous material incidences, first aid requirements, logs and record keeping. To be assigned as needed to support decon, housekeeping, painting work and other duties as assigned by the Company. Performs emergency response duties as assigned. This position requires the completion of the Plant Operator qualification book.

Assisting in the development of a novel solid state neutron detection. I have developed software to recognize neutron capture coincidence in order to detect fission events and used MCNP to determine optimal array geometries for fabrication and testing. Furthermore, I helped design an array and write software for directional neutron detection using these semiconductor neutron detectors. While experimenting with this directional detection array, we also realized that we could gather some spectroscopic data from these detectors by analyzing the normalized count rates relative to the position of the detectors. Since graduation, I have been assisting in this project from home. We published our findings in Nuclear Instrumentation and Methods in Physics Research, Section A and The MANE Student Research and Design Journal.
