About Michael Blake
Hi there! You're not going to learn a lot about someone by reading what they write about themselves. Instead, reach out and say hi. Ask some questions, receive some insight. What I think:I'm passionate; I promote revolutionary transformation by digging into problems, and solving them surrounded by a diverse and wonderful team. I'm Agile; I focus on adapting ideas with insights, not budgets and timelines. I can align a team to a vision, and can spark interests but don't enjoy red tape.I'm data driven; I find and explore data, conduct interviews and challenge norms, rather than following the status-quo.I love a narrative; The experiences and friends you meet on a journey are more important than the destination.

Development Manager / Project Manager
Aptiture is a quality focused team of personalities whose primary focus is on being an industry leader in the insurance software sector. The continued growth and success of this company has been due in part to its early adoption of Agile and our commitment to understanding our clients and their needs. I had worked hard on transforming the business to become a fun place to work, and strived to deliver value to clients efficiently; the clients greatly valued my expertise and assistance in helping them find the right direction through technical leadership and thought provoking approaches. We don't always get it right first time, but the team worked hard with our clients, and with one another, to succeed. I'm proud of the team, and what they achieved, and I'm excited to have be involved in some of the most thought provoking, industry changing projects in the insurance sector.Clients include • CGU Insurance / IAG• Medibank Insurance• Insurance House Group
Lead Developer / Project Manager
Direct manager of a small team of developers, and lead developer for CMS and CRM solutions. Assisted in full sales pipeline and general management. Acted as both Systems Architect and Systems Administrator. I joined Netagi in its early days, and thanks to the vision of its principal, we set ambitious goals that we mostly succeeded to achieve. I was given opportunities in so many areas and, as with the nature of small businesses, we often struggled through the tough times so I learnt a great deal about business management. Due to the nature of the business, my core responsibilities were not defined per-se. I was, through some very long years, able to hone my skills in so many areas. I was a mentor to so many during this time – most of which have gone on to become leaders in their own right. I was mentored by the owner of the business who had an amazing commitment and drive to succeed – with very limited funds – in the massively overpopulated CMS space. It was a hell of a learning experience, and I attribute much of my success to the time I spent here. Clients include• Nintendo Australia• Port Phillip Council• Nursery and Gardens Victoria (NGIV)• Melbourne Business Network• Australia Made Campaign• Swinburne University
Lecturer
Postgraduate lecturer for modern web languages, databases and application development.Lecturing at Swinburne was an extraordinary opportunity to develop my abilities as a both a teacher and leader. I am always humbled when I run into former students who have been able to succeed in the ICT sector especially during the GFC. I was a firm believer in teaching passion and understanding before theory.
Database Administrator And Developer
Started as a volunteer job whilst studying during high school and through to my Masters to assist my Grandfather. Key roles were Solutions Architect, Database Entry and Graphic Design, but were never limited to any particular area. I assisted with the modification to their existing system to handle Y2K compliance, but ultimately rebuilt the database using the then-new PHP with a MySQL backend. Whilst still operation today, using a then-new service based architecture (as opposed to the procedural, but still PRG, code of the day), I learnt a great deal about maintaining existing systems and why good architecture is a keystone to reducing costs – most developers don’t get to see the fruits of their labor still functional after 15+ years.
