Leading the Global Learning Initiative, an across-the-curriculum internationalization effort that uses an innovative and catalytic framework adapted from community organizing theory and practice to work with faculty at the institutional, program/major, and course levels in all undergraduate and select graduate programs. The Global Learning Initiative at Northern Arizona University contributed significantly to the Center for International Education receiving the 2012 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Campus Internationalization from NAFSA: the Association of International Educators.

Northern Arizona University’s civic agency and community engagement program, where 600 students each year were organized into Action Research Teams (ARTs) engaging with more than 40 community partners on on-going issues identified by the community, was one of two university programs featured in “For Democracy’s Future: Education Reclaims Our Civic Mission,” hosted by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan (Obama administration), The White House, Washington, DC, January 10, 2012. The FYSeminar-ARTs Program reported to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and University College at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ.
