Media CDN Performance team: improve the scalability, reliability, debuggability, and performance of the CDN data plane.

Traffic/CDN team- Leading the effort of several teams, suppressed hotlinking of CDN live videos, reducing unauthorized traffic from third-party sites to zero.- Implemented system for detecting hotlinked images and on-demand videos and directed its integration with integrity teams workflow, allowing detection and mitigation of ToS violations.- Designed scriptable image transformation service, in particular, service API. Implemented service frontend including tracing, logging, client registration, client libraries for multiple languages, proof-of-concept service backend.- Implemented sandboxing for image processing service, ensuring each request runs in the isolated environment and can't affect other requests or service itself.- Updated CDN takedown system, removing cached content from multiple caching tiers. Greatly improved system reliability and made sure it works within a legally required 1-hour timeframe.- Added tracing capabilities to the HTTP proxy rule engine, allowing better visibility into its performance.

Feb 2015 - Mar 2017: Bing Multimedia team.- Converted standalone legacy image processing service to multithreaded microservice model, running on Azure platform, resulting in better throughput and scalability, 30% latency improvement and 6x server count decrease.- Moved team's source code repository to the new compiler, build system and source control system, liquidating huge amount of technical debt.- Assisted team with adoption of the new toolchain, wrote a guide for new team members. This allowed developers to quickly ramp up with new tools, which in turn increased their productivity.- Implemented image caching service, greatly reducing latency for search-by-image scenarios.- Implemented real-time media processor, powering search by user-supplied images.- Implemented new image knowledge serving stack backing image collections, shopping and cooking recipes information, with both batch and realtime data updates.Jan 2014 - Feb 2015: ObjectStore team, developing read-optimized high-availability real-time distributed storage platform, backing queries for many Bing services.- Implemented query logging subsystem, allowing easier debugging of bad requests.- Implemented access control subsystem, enabling secure storage of user's personal data.- Improved data processing and export features, making data dump format extendable and allowing per-partner configuration.
