purposely for Airforce personnel who falls sick during work hours. The branch comprises of a nursing station, consulting room, laboratory department and an eye clinic. Although a small unit, we are able to provide clinical results for various clinical investigation, carry out tests such as Glucose check including HbA1c, Liver function, Renal function, Lipid profile, PSA, full blood count, ESR, Malaria microscopy, blood grouping and film comments, serological investigation, urinalysis and toxicology for drug of abuse including some other tests not included above. Although a small unit, we are guided by standard practices, carry out QC and evaluation when necessary. it is our goal to practice QMS and render the best services we have to offer both to the personnel we care for and to ourselves as laboratory services providers.

I was able to work briefly in this fine hospital before it was commissioned. My role was to prepare bench job aids and SOPs for the lab and it's equipment. During my stay here, I was able to provide 18 SOPs and 15 bench job aids. From 3pm-8pm daily, I was to handle all sample collection and sample analysis of patients in need for clinical investigation.

I was able to intern with the Ministry of Defence and was posted to 661 Nigerian Airforce hospital, the first 5 star accredited hospital in Africa, ISO accredited. various departments in this Laboratory include the Clinic chemistry bench where I was able to learn the working and operations of the Cobas Auto analyser, the Selectra Auto analyser, prolyte electrolyte analyser and the spectrophotometric semiauto analyser. There is the haematology bench where we use the Sysmex auto analyser, the immunological bench where serological tests were done and ELISA is done for hormonal assay, the blood bank unit and the Microbiology Bench. I was also able to learn and use the gene expert machine for tuberculosis samples analysis. As an intern, I was able to carry out clinical research and present seminars to staffs at various occasions. I was also assigned to a senior scientist and was placed on calls. I was able to participate in the re-accreditation process held Oct 2020, was trained on Malaria microscopy and lab information system. 661 Nigerian Airforce Laboratory in Ikeja is known for its standard practices and Quality Management System. Until the completion of my Internship, I was very proficient with Microsoft office word and PowerPoint, sample collection and transportation, as well as work on all benches on monthly rotation.
