Leads and/or assists the Director in system-wide activities to evaluate and improve adherence to Joint Commission accreditation standards and CMS Conditions of Participation, including ongoing readiness for accreditation surveys as well as regulatory complaint investigations. The mitigation of regulatory compliance risk will at all times focus on assuring the delivery of high-quality safe patient care.

The position was responsible for the environmental, health, and safety compliance of the University of Illinois Hospital, Outpatient Care Center (OCC), and offsiteAmbulatory Care Clinics, including compliance with environmental, health, and safety Joint Commission Elements of Care. The Assistant Director of Hospital Safety coordinated the delivery of a large portfolio of EHS services performed by EHSO’s Industrial Hygienists, Biosafety Professionals, Food Sanitarians, Hazardous Materials Manager, Lab Safety Specialists, and Hospital Safety Specialist.- Ensured that UI Health is compliant with all Joint Commission standards regarding the Environment of Care, including annual reviews and completion of the Focused Standards Assessment (FSA). Served as the Safety Officer, as designated by the Joint Commission.- Participated in or chaired the Environmental Safety Subcommittee, Fire Safety Subcommittee, Environment of Care (EOC) Committee, EmergencyManagement Committee, Hazardous Materials Subcommittee, Code Pink Task Force, Security Subcommittee, and the Workplace Violence Subcommittee.- Spearheaded the creation and maintenance of surveys within the Sentact system, this is a database that manages compliance issues identified during inspections.- Responsible for the identification, analysis, and evaluation of exposure to risk. Directed methods to minimize the exposure to risk and severity of a loss.- Coordinated the inspection of all laboratories using chemicals and biologicals in UI Health once a year. Updated the Lab Safety Plan which serves as the chemical Hygiene Plan.- Conducted daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and random Environment of Care Surveys of all Hospital, Outpatient Care, and offsite Clinics. Including Review of construction and renovation projects to ensure appropriate ICRA and ILSM completion. - Assisted in Emergency preparedness training, drills, and readiness exercises for the Hospital and Clinics.

Responsible for assisting and coordinating the UIC Environmental Health and Safety Office, Hospital Safety Program. Primary responsibilities include: - Analyze workplace and patient safety cases to provide risk mitigation strategies for organizational regulatory compliance. - Co-chair Environmental Safety subcommittee meetings focused on review, implementation, and reports of hospital policies.- Generate ad-hoc predictive modeling reports for quarterly Senior Leadership meetings to improve patient satisfaction and decrease workplace exposure risk factors. - Construct process improvement surveys and oversee annual facility inspections to determine current regulatory status data and improve safety compliance outcomes. - Sentact Senior Systems Admin in charge of monitoring, identification, and development of hospital safety data action plans for all hospital departments. - Utilize data analysis and implementation of Personal Protective Equipment diversification for over 4000 employees during COVID-19 pandemic peak periods.- Coordinate Environment of Care rounding, Eyewash Inspections, Construction Rounding, and Employee Injury Investigation.- Participates in the University Emergency Response Team program.

- Customized Sentact informatics system that led to cross-functional change initiatives designed to improve patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and system reporting, resulting in a 90% safety participation rate.- Developed configurations and end-user educational training materials for organizational-wide implementation of Sentact Informatics System. - Collated and analyzed data for regulatory safety compliance in anticipation of semiannual operational license inspection by the Joint Commission.- Designed role-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for over 25 hospital safety employees. - Led successful migration of paper-based data to electronic data for increased exposure monitoring protocols
