Worked on the Jetpack team. Jetpack is a product that has been installed more than 3 million times. Jetpack brings the power of the WordPress.com platform to standalone WordPress installations. While on the Jetpack team I was responsible for developing major new features, interfacing with internal and external teams, managing team projects, on going support, future planning, community engagement and was sent to speak at more than a dozen conferences.

Responsibilities are similar to a previous on the Microsoft Interoperability team, with the addition that the MS Open Tech is now more focused on big data technologies such as MongoDB and Redis and the latest Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 devices. Worked with the Windows Azure team to enable support for WordPress Multisite on Windows Azure. Provide guidance for internal and external clients migrating to WordPress.

freshmuse is high end WordPress development firm in Seattle specializing in branding and development for enterprises and fortune 500 companies. In this position I was responsible for overseeing all ongoing development projects in the company. I participated in the architectural designs on each project, ensured timelines were met, managed internal and external contractors, interfaced with clients, and did community engagement. freshmuse was very active in the WordPress world and I was sent to many WordCamps ( WordPress conferences ) representing freshmuse, and generally gave presentations on advanced WordPress development topics at each.Company was dissolved by owners.

Initially hired to write technical documentation and build demo apps to send to the field, it was quickly recognized that I had much more to contribute to the team. Over the course of the year I was heavily involved in the development of the Windows Azure SDK for PHP from a managerial and QA perspective ( See projects section below ). Provided technical guidance and assistance for organizations looking to move existing PHP applications to the Windows Azure cloud. Managed all of the technical documentation and content produced. Maintained team web properties. Worked with large open source projects, such as Wikipedia, to improve their support for Windows Azure, and WordPress to bring SQL Server and Windows Azure support. Attended conferences as a speaker or workshop leader and provided Q&A sessions. Guided PHP implementation and wrote all initial documentation for Windows Azure. Performed community engagement through social media and discussion forums. Worked hard to usher PHP in as first class citizens on Windows Azure.

Redesigned their existing app into an API platform

Briefly I worked on: the bookstore website (as webmaster), built the computer club website, worked with and coded for the primary website, overhauled the Wesley site, and built the iPhone/Android application. The Wesley site consisted of over 35 thousand static documents and was built by hand by various web programers over a decade. Utilizing many advanced PHP programming techniques and years of experience I was able to build scripts which read the contents of each file, sorted the title and content out, the placed it into a database with 98% accuracy. Importing the content was completed 3 months in advance of expectations and I was able to spend the rest of the time refining the content and restructuring the site in a manner that allowed for easy navigation by visitors. The iPhone/Android application was also given to me to develop, without any guidelines. Using a mash of public and private APIs, including Twitter, Flickr, Google, and Yahoo I built an application which fulfilled all their needs and more.

Montana Banana is a full web development studio building everything from small websites to full featured billing systems. Though headquartered in Seattle, Montana Banana employs almost exclusively telecommute employes. I worked with a project manager and a designer on a large range of projects, including the billing application and an encyclopedia with an innovative new way to sort content.

This was an as needed position involving all technological aspects. Lobaugh's Dahlias is one of the premier dahlia growers and originators in the world. Everything dealing with technology fell into my realm. I worked on an as needed basis researching, designing, and implementing all the technological needs, which included: Computer networking, Catalog print services, Website development, Online ordering and payment systems, Computer purchases, Any other general IT work.

Council for Educational Travel U.S.A is a multi-national non-profit organization. When I started all editing was done live on the web server with Dreamweaver and there were no development guidelines. I immediately setup a development server and separated all development activities from the live server for safety and security. As there were also no backups, I setup the dev server with an automated backup system and each morning backups were automatically pulled from the live server. Additionally the dev server was equipped with Subversion to share and version code, hand compiled Apache, PHP, and MySQL to mirror the live server, email backup system, and full inter-office file sharing capabilities. The in-house application was a large jumbled mess of code pulling from 3 separate databases. A deep analysis of the application began and I developed a comprehensive upgrade strategy that would make the system faster for users and more efficient for developers, the main requirement being the new system was developed in place with no downtime to the current application. After combining the 3 rebuilt databases I built an object-relational modeling system to save time writing complex SQL queries in the future. The new system was half the size of the old system, and twice as fast. The new system contained over a million lines of code.

Initially a 30 hour per week position that eventually became as needed as the company matured. I helped the owner get the business off the ground. Micronda was started by a lone entrepreneur wishing to get into the computer market. I was recommended by a professor from the local college to help the owner setup the company. I did a lot of hardware inventory, customer hardware troubleshooting, software installations, network setup, and web design.

Maintain active web properties and design and develop new websites. This was a telecommute position that allowed me flexibility in creating my own work schedule and working from anywhere in the world. During this short contract I worked on improving the existing web properties and advised on the designs for new web properties.

Temporary position upgrading the entire collection of hundreds of main office and satellite office computers to Windows XP from Windows 2000. I also did limited hardware updates.
