Hey! I'm Jacques.I started coding at age 11, when I created my own Wordpress blogs where I sold Amazon affiliate products. At age 12 I also created a travel booking website (https://web.archive.org/web/20100628233632/http://capetown-travel.com/).At age 14, I built a Chrome extension, iStyla, that would let you theme your Facebook. You could even create and share themes. At its peak it had almost 100 000 active monthly users.Since then, I have been expanding my coding skills by working on challenging projects at startups. Working in small teams at early stage startups meant I had to learn whatever technology was necessary to get the job done.Over the years I have developed a wide range of skills, spanning front-end web development, native mobile development, back-end engineering, distributed systems architecture, and DevOps.Having worked at startups, I have learned how to be autonomous, a fast learner, and how to work well in fast-paced, fast-growing teams.I also love helping other engineers develop their skills. I share dev tips on Twitter, create tutorials on YouTube, speak at conferences, and also publish longer form courses.
