As Needed Project Leader/Faculty--Nchc Partners In The Parks: Mammoth Cave
Occasionally (so far 2016, 2023, 2024) lead intensive, field-based study away programs to National Parks (Mammoth Cave National Park in my case) for the National Collegiate Honors Council Partners in the Parks Programs. As project leader I help recruit students from honors programs and colleges across the nation, plan experiences with National Park staff, make logistical arrangements, manage budget and expenses, coordinate support with the NCHC main office, and of course lead the students through the experience--including caving, hiking, canoeing, discussing interpretation and resource management with local experts, reflective activities, and camp life (cooking, cleaning, etc.). I have begun using the park's core interpretive themes as my student learning outcomes for planning and assessment purposes.
