About Patrick Morgan

I have been involved in the media industry since 1990, starting with the animation on the Amiga and having the privilege to see the birth and evolution of Digital Editing systems. I have also worked as a colourist and finishing editor for more than ten years.I worked for the Softimage and Avid reseller as trainer in South Africa. I also did a lot of demo work for Avid that brought me to NAB and IBC on a regular basis. In 2002 I moved to the creative side and worked in post as finishing editor and colourist before moving to the UK in 2005 to work as an editor and colourist. In 2012 I moved back into the dark side, working for Digital Vision as product specialist on Nucoda colour grading and Phoenix restoration software. In 2016 I took over as Product Manager for Nucoda , my role includ product development and testing, feature design and working with engineering on feature implementation.In December 2019 I moved to Filmlight and love working with such a talented and motivated group of people. I have enjoyed every minute and I have cultivated a love for Linux ;-)The adventure continues

For now my freelance days are over. The guys at Digital Vision have asked me to join them on a permanent basis. Back to the manufacturer side for now, looking forward to a new challenge.My role at Digital Vision is diverse and challenging, I love learning new skills and try and learn what I can. In June 2008 The Sanctuary was one of the first casualties of the global recession...I started Bluegiraffe and worked as a freelance editor and colourist, I worked mainly on DS and Nucoda but also worked on Apple Color - I worked on a lot of music productions and also television and film projects. I also did restoration work and a variety of other projects, including doing DS and Nucoda training at the National Film and Television School.During this time I continued my consulting with Digital Vision. Demoing and Training on Nucoda and Phoenix systems, I attended trade shows and continued in helping to develop and test features for the software. From December 2010 to July 2011 I was with Digital Vision on contract. During this time I started working more closely with developers and customers on a day to day basis. With the AVID skills I brought to DV I did more work on the integration of the systems and worked with various broadcasters to integrate workflows successfully.I created documentation for the Valhall and New Precision Panels and created video for training and demo purposes.

During this time I did a great amount of work for Avid, providing training to every Avid|DS installation in South Africa. I also did training in the UAE, USA, Greece and Australia. I attended every certification for the system and learnt a lot about teaching technology. This was done during my time at Reality Horizons and Spescom. George Thompson was an incredible boss, and believed that these experiences would benefit me and the company. Sean du Toit at Spescom shared this philosophy, I owe much to their generosity.

Avid bought Softimage from Microsoft in 1998 - After this Reality Horizons was bought by Spescom Broadcast who were the Avid Resellers in South Africa. I continued my work with XSI and Avid|DS for Specom. I was exposed to Avid products and gradually extended by knowledge to include Media Composer & Symphony and Unity. During this time I continued my training and demo work, this time at the request of Avid UK. I represented them at many tradeshows (IBC and NAB) and did training on their behalf.

My installation count was 12 systems before the company was sold to Spescom after Softimage was bought by Avid.I also worked with and sold Softimage|3D, and later XSI
