For now my freelance days are over. The guys at Digital Vision have asked me to join them on a permanent basis. Back to the manufacturer side for now, looking forward to a new challenge.My role at Digital Vision is diverse and challenging, I love learning new skills and try and learn what I can. Being a small company requires that people are multi-skilled and do what is needed.I have two main roles in the organisation at the moment:1.Product Specialist for Nucoda and PhoenixThis entails testing and design input, training on all the products. I also create documents for new release as well as more in depth instructional documentation and videos. 2. I have been asked to take active involvement and co-manage the Phoenix restoration product.It's a wide variety but I enjoy the new skills it brings.

In June 2008 The Sanctuary was one of the first casualties of the global recession...I started Bluegiraffe and worked as a freelance editor and colourist, I worked mainly on DS and Nucoda but also worked on Apple Color - I worked on a lot of music productions and also television and film projects. I also did restoration work and a variety of other projects, including doing DS and Nucoda training at the National Film and Television School.During this time I continued my consulting with Digital Vision. Demoing and Training on Nucoda and Phoenix systems, I attended trade shows and continued in helping to develop and test features for the software. From December 2010 to July 2011 I was with Digital Vision on contract. During this time I started working more closely with developers and customers on a day to day basis. With the AVID skills I brought to DV I did more work on the integration of the systems and worked with various broadcasters to integrate workflows successfully.I created documentation for the Valhall and New Precision Panels and created video for training and demo purposes.

At the Sanctuary I was one of 2 Senior Online Editors on Avid|DS, I working on long and short form productions, Documentaries and Music and Television. We expanded our services to include dedicated grading, I started to grade on the Digital Vision Nucoda. Documentary, Music and Television as well as restoration work.

I was approached by ZSE TV to head up the editing department - I worked as online editor. Work included Television episodic work, drama, music and TVC's.I worked closely with engineering and production to create and refine workflows and we had very advanced work practices for the technology that existed at the time.

I Moved from Spescom to start working as an editor on Avid|DS in corporate broadcast - one of my old clients.I was senior editor, doing all matter of work on DS, this included training, television and corporate work, opening title design and branding design. I also edited Who Wants to be a Millionaire SA.I continued work for AVID on an Ad-Hoc basis

During my time using Avid|DS from late 1997, I was a certified Avid|DS trainer. During this time I did a great amount of work for Avid, providing training to every Avid|DS installation in South Africa. I also did training in the UAE, USA, Greece and Australia. I attended every certification for the system and learnt a lot about teaching technology. This was done during my time at Reality Horizons and Spescom. George Thompson was an incredible boss, and believed that these experiences would benefit me and the company. Sean du Toit at Spescom shared this philosophy, I owe much to their generosity.

Avid bought Softimage from Microsoft in 1998 - After this Reality Horizons was bought by Spescom Broadcast who were the Avid Resellers in South Africa. I continued my work with XSI and Avid|DS for Specom. I was exposed to Avid products and gradually extended by knowledge to include Media Composer & Symphony and Unity. During this time I continued my training and demo work, this time at the request of Avid UK. I represented them at many tradeshows (IBC and NAB) and did training on their behalf.

My move to Reality Horizons was because of the imminent release Softimage|DS, RH needed a specialist to drive sales of the new product. When I moved for my previous employer, DPS and In-Sync moved their distribution to Reality Horizons, broadening our product offering.Eventually when Softimage|DS was released I did all sales, installations and training for system in South Africa. My installation count was 12 systems before the company was sold to Spescom after Softimage was bought by Avid.I also worked with and sold Softimage|3D, and later XSI
