2019 Linda LeRoy Janklow Teaching Artist of the Year, Brian McCormick is equally at ease with grad students at private university, undergrads at public college, teenagers in after school programs, and middle-schoolers doing in-school residencies at NYC public schools. His work with youth began at Streetwork Project of Victim Services Agency, where as a volunteer, he received a Mayoral Citation and Presidential Nomination for his work coordinating a writing workshop with homeless teens. He has been teaching at The New School - School of Media Studies since graduating from the program over 20 years ago, and for Arts Connection’s Teen Reviewers and Critics Program since 2003. He created and ran the after school program at Baryshnikov Arts Center from 2012-2020, and since 2017 has been teaching theater, dance, and multimedia performance at CUNY - Lehman College. Brian has been published in The New York Times, The Advocate, Dance Magazine, and Dance Studio Life, among others, and was a long-time contributing editor at Gay City News, where as arts editor (2006-2007) he earned the paper a New York Press Association award. He was a member of the New York Dance & Performance Awards (Bessies) Committee from 2002-2012, and the Board of Directors of Pentacle/Dance Works, Inc. from 2015-2020.
