About Benjamin Adam, Phd
I have 10+ years applied and theoretical knowledge in the field of physical and mechanical metallurgy and material science of metal alloys, specifically alloymaking, alloy manufacturing and processing. Focus on Fe-based alloys (especially (heat-resistant) austenitic stainless, PH, martensitic steels) and high-temperature, corrosion-resistant alloys, as Ni-base and superalloys, as well as Ti- and Al-alloys.Main areas of research:- Hot deformation processing and modeling and related microstructural evolution on wrought, cast and AM-built structural alloys, exploring and expanding traditional structure-property relationships- High-temperature corrosion of structural materials in oxidizing and carburizing environments by supercritical CO2 and H2O- Understanding the physical metallurgy in Wire-Arc (such as ESD and CMT) techniques for both ultra-low heat input welding/joining and Metal additive manufacturing versus traditional powder AM techniques; My technical skills and specialties are:- Physical simulation and Mechanical testing: 8+ years experience with Gleeble 3500, Microhardness and general hardness HV/HRC/HRB, Nanoidentation, MTS/Instron axial tension and compression tests, 3-point bend fatigue;- Alloy melting and alloymaking: From design to conception and hands-on operation of lab-scale VIM and VAR systems; Alloy design process included thermodynamic modeling of stable phases, solidification modeling and optimization of post-casting homogenization treatment for minimization of segregation effects- Plasma physics and thin film deposition/sputtering: PVD-MS, High-Power-Pulsed-MS, evaporation, plasma chemistry characterization with mass-energy-analyzers- Computational Modelling, advanced image analysis and post-pro software: Deform v.10-11, JMatPro 6.0-7.0, ThermoCalc+Dictra+Prisma, Origin 5.0-9.0, SolidWorks, Photoshop CS5, ImageJ, CorelDraw, JEMS, MS, Apple and Unix-based OSAb-initio modeling using DFT with VASP; - Characterization and micro-structural investigation: SEM-SE/BSE/EDS/WDS/EBSD, TEM-BF/DF/HAADF/EELS, powder and thin-film XRD (Rigaku and Bruker systems) and LOM with BF/DF/Nomarski interferential contrast. 8+ years of experience working in metallography labs, sample prep (both manual and automatic systems by Struers, Leco), electropolishing and -etching, handling chemicals- Project management and design of experiments- Technical customer support with root-cause analysis and process optimizationAble to work in the US without sponsorship / permanent resident.
