Instructor in Lindenwood's Department of History and Geography. Taught history courses online, with responsibilities including digital course design, assignment preparation, as well as student evaluation and mentorship.

I use beer as a lens to connect past and present, both individually and on behalf of clients. Activities include (but are not limited to):- Consulting- Podcasting- Writing (bylines include Good Beer Hunting, the Washington Post, and The Atlantic)- Guest appearances on documentaries, podcasts, and radio programs.- Organizer and presenter of public history presentations, panels, and conferences.

My primary responsibility was to assist the Chicago Brewseum's Executive Director in implementing the mission of the organization: to take a deeper look into one of the oldest beverages and its power to build community and its importance as an ongoing cultural force. In practice, I conducted extensive research and writing, integrated my findings into the programming and strategic goals of the organization, and at times shared my work with the public at the Brewseum's many public events.I additionally helped organize and communicate multiple Brewseum initiatives. My expertise in U.S. brewing history to help identify project and engagement opportunities both in Chicago and around the nation, which included individual initiatives focused on beer history & culture, collaboration beer concepts, travel opportunities, and academic engagement such as conferences. One particular highlight was the inaugural Beer Culture Summit, a hybrid-format, public-facing, conference that gathered insights from leading scholars, museum professionals, and brewing industry insiders. Depending on need, I might organize and lead events, write associated copy, promote programming on social media, coordinate with partner businesses and organizations, and assist in fundraising efforts. As part of a nascent yet highly maneuverable organization, variable responsibilities were not only necessary, but exhilarating.

Instructor of record for an advanced online undergraduate course on the history of travel, treating the concept of travel both historically and as a globalized, ongoing practice. Developed the course concept, syllabus, reading assignments, and evaluations. Led weekly digital discussion groups where students discussed course concepts and readings. Teaching goals focused on developing students' analytical, research, and communication skills.

Recipient of a 2016-2017 Research Assistantship in the Department of History at Purdue University.

Worked with a design team to create a museum exhibit focused on Chicago brewing history. Assisted in creation of exhibit narrative, conducted historical research, wrote label copy, provided feedback to other team members, and generated awareness through social media and public talks.The exhibit showcases the growth of Chicago's brewing industry from the city's founding to the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, using beer as a lens to discuss the German community's pursuit of local citizenship as well as the general growth of the city.

Conducted archival research related to my PhD dissertation, titled "Beer to Stay: Brewed Culture, Ethnicity, and the Market Revolution 1840-1873". Visited multiple repositories in Cincinnati, Washington DC, and Chicago respectively.Also presented my research at a GHI colloquium to resident scholars and staff.

Managed a team of library staff on night and weekend shifts. Responsible for successful patron assistance, fulfillment of various library services, and general reshelving and maintenance tasks.

Assisted on multiple projects in the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center at Purdue University. Past work has included research for an book project on incorporating archival research education into classrooms, research on select universities' records management policies and legal history, and archival collection processing.Other duties included assisting patrons as part of the reference desk staff.

Assisted professors in the History Department at Purdue University with the preparation of course content and evaluation of student coursework. Consulted with and assisted students, gave lectures and lead classroom discussions, assisted in the construction of assignments, and graded coursework. Instructor of record for an undergraduate survey course in American history through 1877. Developed the syllabus, lectures, and evaluations, as well as leading weekly discussions with students. Designed the course to encourage critical and unconventional interpretations of American history which developed students' analytical and communication skills.
