Byron is a Municipal & Solid Waste Engineer at JG Afrika in Cape Town. He holds an MSc(Eng) specializing in Geotechnical Engineering which he obtained with Distinction in 2015 from the University of Cape Town (UCT), for which we were awarded the Ninham Shand Postgraduate Scholarship. He also holds a BSc(Eng): Civil which he obtained with First Class Honours in 2013 from the University of Cape Town, placing 4th in his class. Among other accolades, he received the DC Robertson Memorial prize for the best Civil Project Design work in his year as well as the Arcus GIBB prize for greatest student contribution to the Civil Engineering department at the university. He is registered as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), and is an Full Member of the South African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE), Council Member of SAICE, as well as being the current Branch Chairman for the Western Cape SAICE Branch Committee, one of the youngest in the branch's history.Experience has been gained in a number of civil engineering related fields including extensive experience in Structural Design & Modelling (focusing on reinforced concrete and steel residential and industrial buildings through preliminary and detailed design stages), Geotechnical Site Investigation and Design (including Wind Turbine Foundation Design), Solid Waste Management (including IWMF's, MRF's, RTS's, Landfill Basal Lining and Capping Designs) as well as the design and implementation of various municipal services. Byron also has experience in project and contract management, including GCC (2015), FIDIC Yellow and JBCC contracts. Construction monitoring of structural and geotechnical projects also formed a vital part of the experience. Byron also has a thorough knowledge of the NEMWA requirements and processes for licensing and lining of disposal sites and pollution control barriers.Byron is capable of performing in a wide variety of Civil Engineering fields and has been involved in projects in all phases of a projects life-cycle.Byron was also the winner of the South African Institute of Civil Engineers National Award for Young Engineer of Year in 2020. One of the youngest winners in the award's history.
