I’ve also experienced the common, painful experience when teams don’t function well. The gap between the two seemed worth exploring, for the wellbeing of team members, for their organization, for society, and anyone else impacted by what teams accomplish and how they behave. If we could really capture the power of “we,” we could change the world. That’s how my journey began.I worked for 7 years as Program Manager at Camp Caroline, a non-profit camp & retreat center, providing opportunities for personal and spiritual growth, developing young leaders, and building strong, purposeful teams. There I gained experience in promotions, recruitment, training and management of a team of 60+ staff and volunteers.I discovered that my own leadership style is analytical and challenging, since I often ask powerful questions that move us to think and act differently. At the same time, my style celebrates harmony, inclusion, and collaboration.Then I studied team performance, group dynamics, and servant leadership while obtaining my Master of Arts in Leadership. I was trained and IAF certified in group process facilitation (assisting groups to have transformative conversations, make plans, and solve problems). I am also a certified EverythingDiSC and The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team facilitator.For several years I was an independent consultant working with teams and leaders to deliver experiences that move them closer to optimal team function. Whether facilitating a group meeting, training leadership skills, or coaching individuals, I use facilitative techniques and processes that increase engagement, interpersonal connection, deeper reflection, and intentional action.Since 2019, I have put these skills to use as a Learning Facilitator and Leadership Coach in Leadership Development at Servus Credit Union, where our teams strive to shape member financial fitness. It is rewarding to support leaders to create highly functional, high-performing teams who capture the power of “we” to build a better world – one member at a time.
