I still remember being 12 years old and writing my first line of code. It was like having the power to bring anything to life. The ability to build anything into existence. The sky was the limit. I would bring the Visual Basic and C++ books home with me and write the pseudocode to the programs in my notebook, before transferring them into the school's terminals the next day. Rinse and repeat. Every programming course my school offered, for 4 years.During my senior year, a local realtor approached our high school in search of someone who could build websites. I pounced on the opportunity. A week later, I had crafted my first site. That marked the beginning of my journey into full-stack design, development, hosting, and maintenance services tailored for business owners. I took charge of the entire SDLC (from ideation to deployment), handled sales and communication, maintained client relationships, and navigated my own business strategy and financial management for a website development agency that I continued into college.Every spare moment I had outside of class hours, I spent coding. As a freshman at the career fair, I approached General Electric despite not fitting their sophomore-to-senior requirements. I asked the rep if I had a chance if I applied as a first-year, and he said, "If you're qualified, you’ll get it. Go for it." And apply I did. The interview followed, and I found myself embarking on my first full-time internship with GE Corporate that summer — a Fortune 500 enterprise. That marked the inception of a 3-year journey with GE, where I clocked in 40-50 hour weeks, leveraging digital technology to streamline operational processes.During a chat with a local business owner, I learned they were grappling with manual payroll tasks, relying on paper timecards, a calculator, and a pen to track hours. The next month, I arrived at their doorstep with a tablet interface where their employees could easily clock in and out, while their hours were calculated behind-the-scenes. The employer could access their Admin panel, review all recorded time, and easily forward it to their payroll company. This marked my first custom-tailored solution for an inefficient process that eventually led to the creation of Jidoka LLC — Japanese for "automation with human touch." A software development company specializing in identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing technical solutions.Especially with software, the sky is truly the limit.
