As an elementary school teacher, I interpret and apply curriculum into accessible and engaging learning activities for a variety of learners. The Youth Exchanges Canada program offers opportunities for groups of youth (from schools or community organizations) to engage in experiential learning through community exchange. For a one-year contract, I led the delivery of this program at a national level. I managed the budget and ensured that all required statistical, financial and program reports were completed and regularly submitted to the funder, Canadian Heritage. I supported and supervised regional staff. I provided risk management oversight for the program, demonstrating a high level of problem-solving skills. I collaborated with the staff team to initiate program innovations to ensure effective high quality program delivery, including the development of a youth engagement strategy.

Beginning in 2010 as a Local Coordinator, I advanced to the role of Support Coordinator for this seasonally offered language work exchange program. I promoted and delivered the program in the Southwestern Ontario region, supporting youth participants from Quebec, young adult staff, community members and stakeholders, such as host families and host employing agencies. I planned and delivered training programs to staff on topics such as Budgeting and Administration and Building Developmental Assets in adolescents. I mediated and promoted effective communication between participants of diverse backgrounds and through a variety of challenging situations.

While a student, I advanced further in the Summer Work Student Exchange program to this position as the Ontario Coordinator. In this role, I recruited, hired, trained, supervised and supported a provincial team of 35 staff who supported 220 youth exchange participants and their host families in their host communities. I led workshops on topics such as diversity and social inclusion, YMCA values, building developmental assets in youth, Harm Reduction. I managed crises and resolved issues as they arose in communities and among program participants in Ontario and Quebec.I effectively maintained administration, budgeting and financial reporting through the program’s delivery and in compliance with YMCA policies and with federal government contribution agreement. I promoted the program and managed relationships with program participants, local partners, employers and community members.

I delivered and managed various youth programs related to experiential and service learning, both nationally and internationally. I managed budgets, program and travel itineraries for groups and individuals travelling to over 20 different countries. I promoted, recruited and selected student leaders and program participants; I then organized and delivered training and debriefing for them. I also personally led teams of high school, university and college students as well as teams of adults for their oftentimes first such service learning experience. I effectively communicated with participants, families, partner organizations and travel coordinators during situations of crisis.I administrated the regional office, managing communications, payroll and all aspects of operations as a Canadian charity.
