About Beth Morgan-Tobar

I have always loved exploring and learning. Whether traipsing through the fields and bush to the creek in the back half of the fifty-five acres on which I grew up or burying my nose in a book late into the night, I was a curious small-town kid who loved to know things. In my twenties, my world got suddenly bigger when I joined Global Youth Volunteer Network, spending chunks of time in over 10 countries and seeing my leadership qualities develop as I took on more and more responsibilities in leading others to their own adventures of learning through experience. Being the type who is calm under pressure, who can quickly adapt to unexpected situations, who is detail-oriented and who is a good communicator, youth education program delivery suits me well. While a university student in my thirties, working to improve my French and Spanish proficiency, I found a fitting space for me in the national programs department of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. There is so much to explore in our own nation and so much to be learned from our fellow citizens across the country. My interpersonal skills were essential for supporting the large group of staff and program participants and my administrative and management skills made for quality program deliveries year after year. These days, I work to inspire curiosity about the world around the students in my classrooms. I take any chance I can to expose them to more. From learning about the biodiversity of our province through a book written in anishinaabemowin, French and English to discussing where our potable water comes from and why not everyone has access.Of course, there are limitations to learning in the conventional classroom and I continue to cast my curious gaze towards alternative ways of learning.
