About Brian M. Wargo, Ph.D.
I help students (young and mature) learn to navigate and participate in this modern, science-based world by engaging them as citizen scientists. I believe that actualizing one's potential is enhanced by a solid understanding of the natural world and our place in it. My passion is in perturbing students’ notions of science and helping them develop a more authentic and a more sophisticated understanding of scientific practice, both theoretically and practically. This requires active participation epistemologically, philosophically, socially, and technologically. This arduous task has the potential to enlighten young people, who can then cooperate to solve the pressing issues faced by humanity. Democracy depends on a well-informed population, that makes rational decisions, and bases those decisions on what is known, what is possible, and what we value. Science enhances our confidence through systematic inquiry and critique. It is, therefore, my life goal to help young people develop into productive, literate, and honest citizens who value learning as much as they value liberty and justice.
